The caves are remarkable natural phenomena, which address by their singularities the general public as well as specialists of various orientation. They can be characterized as notable geomorphological phenomena with plentiful calcite, aragonite or ice fill. The Slovak Caves Administration manages the protection of show caves and future show caves in Slovakia and their safe and sustainable use.
Show caves belong among real gems of Slovakia. Several of them are known in Europe and even in the world. Thus they are luring invitation to interesting quest for beauty and cognition.
There are as much as 44 caves and abysses in Slovakia designated the national nature monuments, which represent a part of the most significant natural heritage of the country.
The knowledge on cave origin and genesis, studying their environment and influence of human activities help in cave protection and specification of condition for their safe and sustainable use.
The caves are natural monuments in state ownership, many of them have rich and unique decoration, some are significant by archaeological findings. That is the reason why they deserve special protection.
