The most important caves

As much as 44 caves and abysses, which represent a part of the most valuable natural heritage in Slovakia, were designated national nature monuments. As a part of the world heritage site, we can include here also other caves and abysses of the Slovak Karst. As type localities they represent morphological and genetical variety of underground karst phenomena, various forms of calcite and aragonite fill, monumentality and exceptionality of permanent glaciation, various forms of cave fauna, but also remarkable archaeological and historical monuments.

Ramsar wetlands

Ramsar wetland site - Domica was included among the internationally important underground wetlands on the basis of two basic criteria. The territory represents rare, representative and special example of natural type of underground wetland within whole Europe. The specific conditions of underground karst system and its waters offers favourable place for life of many rare, vulnerable and endangered species of terrestric and aquatic cave animals.

National nature monuments

The caves are a part of the natural heritage of the Slovak Republic. The act of the NC of SR no. 287/1994 On Nature and Landscape Protection enacted all the caves and abysses in Slovakia natural monuments. The most important ones are declared by the Ministry of the Environment the national nature monuments.

World Natural Heritage

The glamour and mystery of our world natural heritage can be admired only by visitors of show caves. Other caves and abysses of the world heritage are not open to public. Many of them are hardly accessible. Only experienced cavers and speleoalpinists with the help of roping technique or by demanding climbing or crawling can enter these caves and abysses.

COVID admission regime for show caves

Dear visitors

due to dynamically changing situation in Slovakia, we shall keep you updated on application of COVID AUTOMAT with respect to individual show caves. The caves can be entered only with covered mouth and nose and they will be operated either in the BASIC or VTO or completely vaccinated regime. The basic regime means admission of all visitors with possible restriction of number and VTO regime means admission of either only fully vaccinated or negatively tested or those who overcame COVID not later than 180 days ago. The level of risk zone on the other hand sets the rules for wearing either a face mask or a respirator.

Vážení návštevníci

vzhľadom k dynamicky sa meniacej situácií na Slovensku, budeme priebežne informovať o uplatňovaní COVID AUTOMATu pri jednotlivých jaskyniach. Do jaskýň je možný vstup len s prekrytými dýchacími cestami a sú prevádzkované buď v režime ZÁKLAD alebo OTP alebo kompletne zočkovaní. Režim ZÁKLAD znamená vstup všetkých návštevníkov s prípadným obmedzením počtu a režim OTP znamená vstup plne zaočkovaných, negatívne otestovaných a tých, čo prekonali ochorenie COVID pred menej ako 180 dňami. Stupeň ohrozenia zas určí, či je dýchacie cesty nutné prekryť rúškom alebo respirátorom.

SHOW CAVES OPENED AGAIN

Dear visitors, our show caves are opened again from May 15, 2021 under the following restrictions: visitors must wear a face mask, disinfect hands and keep the required distance from each other. Details are stated in official country regulations and legislature. The number of visitors per admission is reduced. Thanks for understanding. We wish you a pleasant visit!
