Jasovská Cave

Jasovská Cave is located in the Medzev Upland in the western part of the Košice Basin. The cave became the first show cave in Slovakia in 1846, however the upper parts had been known as early as the 13th century and the inscription from 1452, which records the victory of Ján Jiskra’s from Brandýs military force, represents the oldest written mention in Slovak caves.

Educational activities

Exposition in the cave entrance building

Open on May 27, 1997. The first part contains information on geological and geomorphological settings of the Jasovská Cave and surrounding, on the forms of flowstone fills, speleoclimatic and hydrological settings, palaeontological findings and cave fauna. The second part presents the cave protection within the Jasovské dubiny national nature reserve in the Slovak Karst National Park and healing speleoclimatic stays in the cave.

Educational boards

A simpler way of introduction of natural, cultural and historical values of caves and their surrounding are educational boards. The Slovak Caves Administration installed a board on bat protection at the Jasovská Cave (1995).
