Driny Cave

Driny Cave is the only show cave in the western Slovakia. It is located in the Smolenice karst in the Lesser Carpathians, to the southwest of Smolenice. The mysterious hole in the earth was known for the local people already in the 19-th century, but only in 1932 they dared to enter underground. Flowstone draperies with indented facing are typical for this cave.

The Lesser Carpathians Protected Landscape Area

It is the only large protected area of vineyard character in Slovakia. The Lesser Carpathians Mts. represent edge mountains of the inner Carpathians lying in their south-western tip. They form core mountains with specific evolution of crystalline core with both envelope and nappe units. There are various rocks in the area – granites, limestones, shales, phyllites, amphiboles and others.

Červený Kameň Castle

The Červený Kameň castle was first mentioned in 1240 and is considerd one of the unique objects of the Central European construction. A museum documenting the life and way of housing of aristocracy was set up in the castle.

The public has access to the castle only from 1997. An exposition with several types of housing spaces from Renaissance to Historism style is available for visitors.

Smolenice Castle

A dominant of the Smolenice village is the Smolenice Castle, which towers on the eastern foothill of the Lesser Carpathians. The surrounding is suitable for short walking tours in forests, meadows or the Driny Cave. The castle is surrounded by a large and maintained park. A part of the outer fortifications, which are remains of the fort that guarded the Czech Road, with shooting range was preserved near the castle.

The castle serves both for recreation and scientific conferences and workshops. Its furnishing is similar to a hotel one, with dining rooms, reception rooms, sleeping rooms and conference halls.
