Dobšinská Ice Cave

The Dobšinská Ice Cave is situated in the Spiš-Gemer karst, in the national nature reserve Stratená, and by the character of glaciation belongs among the most important caves in the world. Ice fill occurs here in various forms and ice thickness reaches in some places 26 meters.

Open on June 29, 1998, the length 470 m, vertical span 66 m with 5 boards: 1. basic information, protection of Slovak Paradise National Park, 2. Slovak Paradise NP, ravines, forests, 3. Stratená national nature reserve, natural settings, 4. flora, fauna and forest societies, 5. Dobšinská Ice Cave.

Educational boards

Present a simpler way of information on natural, cultural and historical values of the cave or its surrounding. The Slovak Caves Administration installed a board on bat protection at the Dobšinská Ice Cave (1995).

Exhibition in the entrance building to the Dobšinská Ice Cave

Open in 1997. Consists of 6 boards. The first part presents the karst phenomena of the Slovak Paradise, Stratenská cave system, glaciation of the Dobšinská Ice Cave, geomorfological things of interest in the Slovak Paradise; the second part explains the history of the Dobšinská Ice Cave, discovery, opening to public and scientific importance of cave ice fill.
