National nature monuments – Bobačka Cave

The caves are a part natural heritage of the Slovak Republic. The Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic no. 543/2002 of the Legal Codes On Nature and Landscape Protection enacted all the caves and abysses natural monuments. The most important ones are declared by the Ministry of the Environment the national nature monuments. All the show caves belong by now among the most important caves.

Bobačka Cave

The cave is an important bat hibernation place with high species diversity (as much as 13 species). The most abundant are the Lesser Horseshoe Bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros) and the Greater Mouse-eared Bat (Myotis myotis). Regularly hibernating are several individuals of the Greater Horseshoe Bat (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) and the Barbastelle (Barbastella barbastellus). The richest number of invertebrate species have the springtails (Collembola). Abundant populations are formed mainly by troglobitic Arrhopalites aggtelekiensis, Deuteraphorura kratochvili, Pseudosinella paclti and Protaphorura janosik. This cave is by now the only finding place of troglophilic springtail Plutomurus unidentatus in Slovakia. There are also multipedes Allorhiscosoma sphinx and Hylebainosoma tatranum, which are Western Carpathian endemitic species. Troglophilic crustaceans are represented by isopod Mesoniscus graniger. The predatory spider Ischyropsalis manicata can be found on cave walls.
